Evolutionäre Genomik

Wie wurden lebende Organismen so, wie sie heute sind? Die Kondrashov Gruppe beschäftigt sich damit, die natürliche Welt in einem evolutionären Kontext zu verstehen. Aufgrund der Fülle von Daten über DNA- und Proteinsequenzen konzentriert sich die Gruppe typischerweise auf die Untersuchung genetischer Information.

Kondrashov und seine Gruppe beschränken sich nicht darauf, spezifische Funktionen oder Phänotypen zu untersuchen. Ein wesentliches Merkmal ihrer Forschung ist stattdessen der Fokus darauf, wie sich Funktionen und Phänotypen im Laufe der Zeit verändern. Daher ist ihre Arbeit inhärent interdisziplinär. Sie basiert auf klassischen evolutionären Gebieten, wie Populationsgenetik oder molekulare Evolution, aber stützt sich auch auf andere Felder, wie die Zell- und Molekularbiologie, Bioinformatik und Biophysik. In letzter Zeit interessiert sich die Gruppe zunehmend für den experimentellen Test von Fitness-Landschaften. Durch eine Kombination aus Experimenten, Theorie und Bioinformatik fragt die Gruppe, wie Veränderungen im Genotyp die Fitness oder spezifische Phänotypen beeinflussen. In naher Zukunft möchte die Gruppe ihre experimentellen Möglichkeiten erweitern, um eine größere Bandbreite an interessanten Phänotypen mittels Hochdurchsatz-Tests zu untersuchen.
