From quadratic reciprocity to arithmetic duality theorems

The law of quadratic reciprocity is a classical and useful tool in number theory. In this talk, I will start by recalling a simple proof of this statement. Then I will explain its link to global class field theory and the applications to the existence of rational points on algebraic varieties. Finally, I will discuss more advanced extensions like Poitou-Tate duality theorem and its generalizations.
