Mayor of Vienna visits IST Austria

Michael Häupl praises IST contribution to Vienna and surrounding area as center for innovation and technology

Michael Häupl, Mayor of the City of Vienna, today paid a visit to the Institute of Science and Technology (IST) Austria. IST President Thomas Henzinger and Managing Director Gerald Murauer informed Mr. Häupl of the establishment and development of the research institute. Their presentation was followed by a joint tour of the campus. Mr. Häupl met PhD student Tom Ellis, postdocs Filip Korc and Stefanie Zur Nedden, and Professors Sylvia Cremer and Peter Jonas. After visiting the biology and neuroscience laboratories in the Bertalanffy Foundation Building Mr. Häupl stressed the importance of basic research in the natural sciences and the education of young scientists. Häupl: “With its graduate school and the numerous projects with other research institutes from all over Austria, IST Austria has its share in actively securing and developing the City of Vienna and its surrounding area as a center of innovation and technology.”
