IST Austria supports OA2020 Initiative

IST Austria strengthens commitment to transition to Open Access by signing “Expression of Interest in the Large-scale Implementation of Open Access to Scholarly Journals”

IST Austria is committed to Open Access as expressed in the Institute’s Open Access policy. Therefore it was a logical step to sign the “Expression of Interest in the Large-scale Implementation of Open Access to Scholarly Journals” as part of the OA2020 Initiative as well.

In the coming year IST Austria Library will include Open Access in the license contract negotiations to shift existing funding with the purpose of making Open Access for scientists as easy as possible. Once the initiative receives a broad support a transition to Open Access will be possible within the next years.

With this commitment to the transition IST Austria follows the “Recommendations for the Transition to Open Access in Austria” of the Open Access Network Austria (OANA).

As part of the Austrian Library Consortium (KEMÖ), IST Austria already started this process by participating in offsetting deals with IOP Press and Taylor & Francis. The trendsetting Springer Compact deal offers the opportunity of Open Access publishing in Springer Journals for free to all corresponding authors from IST Austria.

OA 2020 is an initiative under the umbrella of the Berlin Declaration on Open Access to Knowledge in the Sciences and Humanities and was initiated earlier this year by the Max Planck Society. The FWF is one of the first supporters of the initiative, and invited other intuitions in Austria to follow.
