Visualizations are powerful tools in science and everyday media, yet audiences often interpret them differently than intended. Drawing on research from the WWTF Digital Humanism project Talking Charts, this seminar examines how chart design shapes understanding, why transparency across the data lifecycle matters, and how subjective data experiences influence sensemaking. The speaker will share findings from studies of climate-related visualizations and discuss emerging tools to help creators better assess how people interpret charts.
