Annual AHPC Meeting of supercomputer experts at IST Austria

Meeting of supercomputer experts at IST Austria

Austrian HPC Meeting 2020

This year, from February 19-20, 2020, the annual Austrian High-Performance Computing (AHPC) meeting on supercomputing is taking place at the Institute of Science and Technology (IST) Austria in Klosterneuburg. 120 national and international experts will meet to exchange views on aspects of the application in research and the operation of supercomputers. In addition to top-class participants from the USA, IST Austria Professor and structural biologist Leonid Sazanov, among others, will speak about the requirements for HPC infrastructure when using cryo-electron microscopy to decode 3D structures of biological protein complexes. Other international experts will address the development of faster and (energy) efficient algorithms and the challenges of storing ever-larger amounts of data. Another important aspect is the European dimension of HPC. Philippe Notton will talk about the European processor initiative, and discuss Austria’s participation in programs such as Prace and EuroHPC.

Alois Schlögl, organizer of this year’s AHPC Meeting and an expert on Scientific Computing at IST Austria: “Initiatives like the AHPC Meeting are essential to discuss the current state of the art and future developments to make the best possible decisions for future HPC investments. By networking national and international experts, we create know-how and synergies for Austria as a research and business location”. Furthermore, this also underlines the importance of joint activities within the Austrian research landscape.
