Your Responsibilities
You are a scientist seeking to put your passion for education & outreach at the center of your career? The VISTA Fellowship offers scientists room to develop and kickstart innovative science education projects and acquire skills necessary for a transition to a career in science education. Develop your own project, whether it is connected to your previous research work or independent from it. VISTA fellowship projects can be entrepreneurial in nature, and take many different formats – with respect to target group, formal vs informal education etc. In addition to providing resources for developing your own project, the fellowship immerses you in ISTA’s science education team. Actively contributing to the team’s activities provides you with transitional support and practical experience in science education. The VISTA Fellowship covers both the salary of the fellow for 6 months (up to 1 year with appropriate justification) and project costs.
- Develop and start implementing your own science education project
- Prototyping & testing your project (e.g. school workshop) and incorporating feedback
- Devising the next steps for further implementation or scale-up of the project
- Be an active part of ISTA’s science education team
- Participate in team meetings as a critical colleague
- Contribute to existing science education formats to gain experience
- Make use of educational and networking resources to strengthen your profile, e.g. take science education courses, journal club, career development program, participation in events
Your Profile
- Previous working experience in research
- Strong passion for and interest in education
- Reliable team player with a strong interest in collaborative work and openness to contribute to diverse projects in the team
- Very good communication skills in English (other language skill requirements depend on project requirements)
- Next to their CV, applicants needs to submit a set of documents: i) a fellowship project description, ii) a description of the planned activities during the fellowship, iii) a statement on the role of the fellowship within personal career plans and on expected benefits from the immersion in the VISTA team
