Eating and drinking on campus

Whether you want a substantial meal, a snack to go or a comfortable place to sit and relax with a coffee and cake or hang-out with a beer in the evening, you’ll find somewhere suitable to eat and drink on campus.

Cafeteria

The cafeteria offers freshly cooked meals with local, seasonal and well-balanced ingredients with a focus on ethnic foods. Tasty and diversified meals, high-quality ingredients, and careful preparation reflect the international diversity and high standards of IST Austria. A healthy salad bar, snacks and sandwiches are offered. Small dessert and ice cream can satisfy your sweet tooth. 

Especially during the lunch hours the cafeteria is a key meeting point for all employees on campus. The lakeside view room can be booked separately and provides a good meeting room for lunch meetings. The sunny terraces offers stunning views of the campus and the surrounding nature.

The opening hours are from Monday to Friday (except public holidays) from 08.00am 03.00pm with a breakfast buffet: 08.00am 10.30pm and lunch buffet: 11.30am 02.00pm.

The cafeteria is operated by SV (Österreich) GmbH on behalf of IST Austria. It has a seating capacity of 230 seats inside plus 154 seats outdoors.

Crazy Duck

Small snacks, traditional Austrian “Kaffee und Kuchen” (coffee and cake) in the afternoon as well as playing a round of pool with a nice beer together with colleges to finish the day, the Crazy Duck offers all that and more. Located in the main building conveniently in the heart of campus it is the place to get together on campus. Diverse social activities like games night, public football viewing are hosted here. Think and Drink each Friday bring together researchers and everybody interested in chosen topic to have stimulating discussion.

Its menu offers small snacks, pizzas, sandwiches and a well-selected variety of national and international beers and wines. The Crazy Duck also serves as an alternative place for consuming lunch and can be used for informal meetings and discussions during daytime also outside the opening hours.

The Crazy Duck is open from Monday to Friday at 2:30pm–10:00pm and on Saturday, Sunday and public holidays at 12:00pm–6:00pm.

Starbucks corner 

You can get your caffeine fix 24/7 at the self-serving Starbucks corner in the Main building lobby on the ground floor.

Office kitchens in each building

Each building is equipped with several coffee kitchens which provide coffee, tea and milk. It is possible to order fresh fruit baskets from local farmers via campus services for you and your unit or team. Fresh fruits can also be purchased without ordering in advance at the Crazy Duck.

Vending machines on campus

Throughout campus vending machines maintained by the SV Group offer small snacks and cold drinks 24/7.

BBQ on campus

Everybody loves to BBQ! During the warmer months of the year a BBQ on our lake side terrace is great activity for IST Austria members. BBQ equipment can be rented free of charge from the guest house reception, coal and food can be bought at the nearby supermarket.

Billa Supermarket

There is a supermarket only a few steps of campus. This supermarket provides you with everything you might need for your daily life.
