Seiringer new President of IAMP

IST Austria Professor Robert Seiringer took office as President of the International Association of Mathematical Physics

On January 1, 2015, IST Austria Professor Robert Seiringer took office as President of the International Association of Mathematical Physics (www.iamp.org), an international association representing approximately 700 researchers in this field. The President of IST Austria, Thomas Henzinger commended Seiringer: “Congratulations to Robert who, with this function, also contributes to the international visibility of IST Austria.” The IAMP was founded in 1976, its first president being Walter Thirring, the founding father of mathematical physics in Vienna, who passed away in the summer of 2014. A central function of the association is to organize the ICMP (International Congress of Mathematical Physics) which takes place every three years. During this congress the most important award in the field is given out, the Henri Poincare Prize which Seiringer himself received in 2009.

Robert Seiringeris an Austrian mathematical physicist, born in 1976, who joined IST Austria in 2013. After studying in Vienna he moved to Princeton University, and then on to McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Seiringer’s scientific interest concerns the quantum theory of systems with many degrees of freedom (quantum manybody theory). He is best known for his contributions to the analysis of dilute systems at very low temperatures.
