Opening of Bertalanffy Foundation Building
Launch of first experimental lab building • Seven research groups starting work • Complex named after donor of 10 Mio €
After a planning and construction period of only two years the Bertalanffy Foundation Building will be inaugurated on October 13 on the Campus of the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (IST Austria) in Klosterneuburg in the Vienna Woods. Seven research groups will immediately start to work in the lab building after the opening. With the name of the building the Institutes honors Peter Bertalanffy: The Invicta private foundation donated 10 Mio. Euro to IST Austria in March 2010.
The inauguration will proceed in the presence of Governor Erwin Pröll, Department Head Elisabeth Freismuth representing Federal Minister Beatrix Karl, donor Peter Bertalanffy and IST Austria President, Thomas Henzinger. Following the inauguration of the Bertalanffy Foundation Building the groundbreaking of the next lab building will take place.
On the occasion of the opening President Thomas Henzinger – 13 months after taking office in September 2009 – recapitulated the activities since June 2009: „One and a halve years after the opening of the Campus IST Austria is shifting into the next stage of development. The Bertalanffy Foundation Building builds a bridge into the future. Just as the modern architecture connects the Central Building with the new labs, the theoretical and the experimental scientists move closer. We are deeply indebted to the donor, Mag. Peter Bertalanffy. The value of his donation exceeds the actual amount by far. With his donation Peter Bertalanffy expresses his trust in the development of the Institute and in its basic principles.”
