Scientific Intern Research Group Jonas
- Klosterneuburg (Vienna), Austria
- € 1583 euros gross/month (40h)
- Application Deadline: as soon as possible, earliest start date July 1st 2026
The Cellular Neuroscience group (Jonas group) is seeking a paid, full-time scientific intern to support functional (cryo-)electron tomography workflows, including sample preparation and ultrastructural analysis. The group investigates two core questions: the mechanisms of synaptic transmission and plasticity at cortical synapses, and how synaptic properties shape higher-order computations and information storage in the brain. To address these, they integrate electrophysiology, advanced light and electron microscopy, molecular biology, and computational modeling.
The ideal candidate has a strong interest in advanced (electron) microscopy in neuroscience and is motivated to work with state-of-the-art experimental approaches to decipher structure-function relationships of hippocampal synapses. You will join a collaborative, research-driven team, contributing to ongoing projects.
Your Responsibilities
- Assist with advanced (cryo-)electron microscopy of neuronal tissue (acute slice preparation, high-pressure freezing, freeze substitution, ultramicrotomy, image segmentation)
- Help maintain and document experimental workflows
- Work closely with researchers to ensure high-quality and reproducible data
Your Profile
- Ongoing or completed studies in neuroscience, biology, biochemistry, biophysics, medicine, or a related field
- Strong interest in cellular neuroscience and (electron) microscopy
- Careful, reliable, and well-organized working style
- Ability to follow established protocols and work both independently and in a team
- Proficiency in spoken and written English
- Ability to commit to a full-time six-month internship located near Vienna, Austria
