After obtaining his MSc in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Management at the University of Sheffield, UK, Shayan Shami Pour joined the Heisenberg and Hof groups mutually in September 2014. His main research interests lie at the interface between developmental biology and cellular mechanics, where by employing biophysical concepts, he aims at unraveling the forces that shape the embryo. Specifically, in his PhD, he focused on the cell cytoskeleton structures and their function in cytoplasmic reorganizations during early cleavages. In 2019, together with colleagues from the Hof, Hannezo, and Heisenberg groups, he published the study ‘Bulk actin dynamics drive phase segregation in zebrafish oocytes’ in the journal Cell.
