The realization of microwave circuits with hybrid semiconducting-superconducting materials has proven to be an exciting avenue of research, both applied and fundamental. I will discuss two recent developments. In the first, we have detected the gate-tunable kinetic inductance of an InAs/Al nanowire hunting a coplanar waveguide resonator [1]. In the second, we have realized a superconducting qubit whose Josephson energy is determined by a fully controllable quantum dot [2]. This latter circuit can be used as a sensitive detector of the quantum dot parity, and thus to measure parity transitions, resulting in an in-depth experimental study of an Anderson quantum impurity with superconducting leads. I will comment on the significance of these results for our understanding of the underlying material platform, as well as on future directions of research.
