Organe
Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA) unterliegt der Leitung einer Reihe von Organen, die genau definierte Aufgaben übernehmen. Die Mitglieder der Organe werden gemäß dem Grundsatz der Unabhängigkeit von allen Einflüssen, abgesehen von wissenschaftlicher oder verwaltungsbezogener Leistung, ausgewählt.

Kuratorium
Das Kuratorium überwacht die Entwicklung des Instituts. Als wichtigstes Entscheidungsgremium stellt es sicher, dass das Institut die Gründungsprinzipien einhält und den Auftrag erfüllt. Es unterstützt die Leitung und hat unter anderem folgende Aufgaben:
- Beschluss des Organisationsstatuts und der strategischen Ausrichtung
- Beschluss des Budgets und des jährlichen Finanzabschlusses
- Bestellung des/der Präsidenten/in, des Wissenschaftlichen Rats und des/der Verwaltungsdirektors/in
- Genehmigung des Verfahrens zur Berufung und Beförderung des akademischen Personals und der Wissenschafter:innen
Das Kuratorium besteht aus 16 Mitgliedern. Neun Mitglieder sind international anerkannte Wissenschafter:innen, vier Mitglieder werden von der österreichischen Bundesregierung und drei vom Land Niederösterreich ernannt.

Exekutivausschuss
Der Exekutivausschuss ist ein Unterausschuss des Kuratoriums, der u.a. die folgenden Rechte und Pflichten hat:
- Handeln im Namen des Kuratoriums in Bezug auf alle Angelegenheiten zwischen den Versammlungen des Kuratoriums.
- Führen von vorbereitenden Diskussionen zu Themen, die dem Kuratorium zur Entscheidung vorgelegt werden sollen, z. B. das Jahresbudget.
Der Exekutivausschuss besteht aus fünf Mitgliedern.

Wissenschaftlicher Rat
Der Wissenschaftliche Rat erstellt Vorschläge zur wissenschaftlichen Ausrichtung und zur Sicherung der hohen wissenschaftlichen Leistungsfähigkeit. Der Wissenschaftliche Rat besteht aus international höchst anerkannten Forscherpersönlichkeiten sowie einem Mitglied ohne Stimmrecht, das sich durch besondere Managementerfahrung auszeichnet. Alle Mitglieder wurden vom Kuratorium für eine Funktionsperiode von sechs Jahren bestellt.
